Which Banks Provide Free Travel Insurance in Singapore?
Part of the SeriesCredit Cards 101

In Singapore, several banks offer complimentary travel insurance as a benefit when you use specific credit cards to book your travel. This perk is typically activated only if you charge the full fare of your travel ticket—often including flights, hotels, or rental cars—to an eligible card before departure.

Note that this coverage mainly applies to Singapore-issued credit cards, and activation steps or conditions (like online registration) may be required before your trip. Free coverage is generally focused on flights and core travel—an excellent extra, but often not a full replacement for comprehensive policies.

Citibank

Citibank provides complimentary travel insurance on several of its credit cards for cardmembers who charge the entire travel fare to their card, with insurance underwritten by an established provider. Cardholders should complete all required activation steps before travelling. Benefit review dates and coverage end-dates are stipulated by the bank—currently, complimentary coverage applies up to 31 March 2026.

  • Eligible cards include:

  • Main coverage features:

    • Personal accident protection up to $1,000,000 for ticketed trips

    • Reimbursement for travel inconveniences such as flight delays, baggage delays/loss, and trip cancellation

  • Activation:

    • Full fare must be charged to the eligible card before activating the insurance via Citi’s required process.

    • Coverage end-dates may apply (currently 31 March 2026).

UOB (United Overseas Bank)

UOB is known for offering one of the broadest selections of credit cards with complimentary travel insurance, all underwritten by its associated insurer. Coverage is typically granted if the full travel fare is paid using an eligible UOB card, and cardholders often need to submit an opt-in form several working days before their trip.

  • Examples of eligible card families:

  • Typical coverage components:

    • Personal accident protection up to $500,000 for the cardholder and eligible family members

    • Overseas emergency medical assistance (e.g. medical evacuation)

    • Compensation for flight overbooking, missed connections, and travel delays

  • Requirements:

    • Cardholders must charge the full fare to the eligible card and submit an opt-in form before the trip

    • The departure date must fall within 12 months from the date the travel fare is charged to your UOB card

HSBC

HSBC is stricter when it comes to the selection of credit cards that offer complimentary travel insurance. In fact, in 2024, it announced the discontinuation of complimentary travel insurance for one of its most popular cards, the HSBC Revolution. Today, you can enjoy coverage with one of these cards:

  • Eligible cards include:

  • HSBC TravelOne Card offers complimentary travel insurance when you charge the full air ticket cost to your card.

  • Noteworthy benefit: Coverage of up to $150,000 for overseas medical expenses, with eligibility expanding to accommodation and car rental spend as part of the travel package.

  • You must pay all qualifying travel expenses using your HSBC card to activate the benefit.

DBS Bank

As of 26 February 2026, DBS has announced that complimentary travel insurance will no longer be issued from 1 November 2025 onwards. Complimentary travel insurance remains available on selected premium cards, such as the DBS Insignia.

  • Coverage has also been scaled back for general marketplace and travel bookings:

    • For bookings via the DBS Travel & Leisure Marketplace, free coverage ended for purchases made after 1 November 2025.

  • Ensure your card confers this benefit and check for policy updates or upcoming discontinuation.

OCBC Bank

Similar to HSBC, the selection of cards with complimentary travel insurance for OCBC is rather limited.

  • Eligible cards include:

    • OCBC Premier Visa Infinite Card

    • OCBC VOYAGE Card

  • Coverage readily extends to principal and supplementary cardholders.

  • Insurance covers core travel risks, including personal accident, medical, and travel inconvenience scenarios.

  • Always use your OCBC card for the full fare to activate the protection.

Maybank

Maybank is more generous with its line-up of cards that offer complimentary travel insurance. The insurance payout depends on the card tier. For example, Card Type 1 provides the lowest level of coverage, while Card Type 3 offers the highest level of coverage.

  • Eligible Card Type 1:

  • Classic Card, Family & Friends Card, Manchester United Platinum Visa Card and/or FC Barcelona Visa Signature Card

  • Eligible Card Type 2:

  • Eligible Card Type 3: Horizon Platinum Visa Card, Business Platinum MasterCard, Business Visa Platinum Debit, World MasterCard, Visa Infinite and/or Horizon Visa Signature Card

  • Who is covered? Cardmember, spouse, and dependent children

  • Key protections include:

    • Accidental death or permanent disablement cover up to $1,000,000

    • Baggage loss, baggage delay, and reimbursement for travel mishaps

  • You must pay the entire fare with your Maybank card to activate the insurance.
