Check your eligibility

Check that you meet MSIG's basic requirements before you apply.
Required criteria:

  • Private, non-commercial vehicle registered in your name

  • Note: Commercial or private hire vehicles aren't covered under MSIG's consumer car insurance plans.
Step 2

Prepare required documents

Prepare these documents ahead of your application:
  • NRIC or Passport
  • Vehicle registration number and details (make, model, year, engine capacity)
  • Driving licence tenure and No-Claim Discount (NCD) status
  • Details of past claims or traffic violations
Step 3

Obtain premium quotes from MoneySmart specialists

Here's what they'll take off your plate:
  • Matching you to MotorMax or MotorMax Plus based on your needs
  • Comparing quotes across insurers so you're not stuck picking blind
  • Flagging discounts you qualify for (like your NCD)
  • Weighing whether add-ons like NCD Protector are worth it for you
  • Factoring in your car's age and value along the way
Step 4

Submit your application

Once you and your specialist have landed on the right plan, they'll take care of the paperwork from there.
  • Filling in application forms & submitting final document details
  • Following up with MSIG directly to get your application approved
  • Keeping you posted at every stage
Step 5

Make payment & activate policy

Once you're approved, it's just a matter of paying and you're covered.

How to pay: Credit / debit card or PayNow

Ashley is an excellent customer service staff at MoneySmart. When my car insurance was due to expire next month, I sent a request for quotations via MoneySmart’s WhatsApp. Within a few minutes, Ashley responded with three insurance quotations. I decided to proceed with HLAS for my car insurance renewal. However, I made some mistakes when filling in my car details. Ashley not only spotted the errors but also took the initiative to contact HLAS to correct the information, allowing me to resubmit my application smoothly. She even assisted me on 1 May, which was a public holiday and her rest day. This truly reflects her strong commitment to her work and her genuine care for customers.

How to Make a Claim With MSIG Car Insurance

Immediate steps after an accident

In the event you’re involved in a car accident, make sure you and all passengers are safe first. Subsequently, document the accident details to ensure your claims process is as smooth as possible.

What to do right away:
  • If there are injuries, dial 995 for an ambulance or 999 for the police. Don't move the vehicles unless you need to rescue injured parties—move your vehicle to the side only if no one is hurt.
  • Take photographs of the accident scene and damaged vehicles. MSIG's authorised workshops can help you download these if needed.
  • Exchange information with the other driver / owner: Name, NRIC/FIN, phone number, email, insurer, and policy number, plus their vehicle registration number and details.

Reporting your claim

File a police report if the accident involves an injury case with 3 or more days of medical leave, a hit-and-run, or other reportable circumstances. Then bring your vehicle to an MSIG authorised workshop to lodge the accident report and submit your claim. Bring the required documents along so they can process your claim promptly.

Documents to have ready (varies by claim type):
  • Lodging an accident report: IC / Passport, Motor Certificate of Insurance, driver's licence, police report (if any), photographs (if any)
  • Repair claim: E-filed accident report, police report (if any), original photographs of damage, final repair bill and receipt
  • Medical benefits claim: Original medical bills / receipts, medical report (if required)
  • Personal accident claim: Police report, medical report (if required), and — in the event of death—a death certificate plus proof of relationship to the claimant
  • Third-party property or bodily injury claims: E-filed accident report, police report, police final investigation result, medical bills/reports where applicable, and other supporting documents

For claim-related enquiries, you can contact MSIG’s claims hotline on weekdays from 8.45 am to 5.30 pm at +65 6827 7660.

Claims timeline and process

MSIG will follow up directly if additional documents are needed. A few things to know:
  • Windscreen claims follow their own track. Send your vehicle to an MSIG windscreen specialist for a Windscreen Claim Form. Only broken windscreens are claimable, and the excess is waived if you repair rather than replace.
  • Workshop choice follows your plan (see comparison table above). MotorMax Plus holders can still opt for an MSIG authorised workshop for direct settlement.
  • Car not driveable? MSIG’s roadside assistance arranges a tow to an authorised workshop.

MSIG customer service & support channels

FAQs About MSIG Car Insurance

What types of car insurance cover does MSIG offer in Singapore?

MSIG provides two comprehensive plans: MotorMax and MotorMax Plus. Both cover accidental damage, fire, theft, third-party injury, and property damage. MotorMax Plus also lets you use any workshop for repairs and adds a daily transport allowance, while MotorMax restricts repairs to MSIG's authorised workshop network.

How do I make a claim under my MSIG car insurance?

If there are injuries, call 995 or 999 first. Take photos of the scene and exchange particulars with the other driver. File a police report if the accident involves 3+ days of medical leave, a hit-and-run, or other reportable circumstances, then bring your vehicle to an MSIG authorised workshop to lodge the accident report and submit your claim.

What is the MSIG car insurance claims hotline?

For immediate assistance, call MSIG's 24-hour helpline at +65 6968 6223. You can also reach MSIG via Live Chat, the Mae chatbot, or an online enquiry form on the official MSIG Singapore website.

How does the No-Claim Discount (NCD) work with MSIG?

An NCD is a premium discount awarded for claim-free years. Making a claim may reduce your NCD, but you can add an NCD Protector (for holders of 30% NCD or higher) to protect your NCD entitlement in the event of a claim.

How do I cancel my MSIG car insurance policy?

Contact MSIG's customer support with your policy number, NRIC / FIN, and reason for cancellation. You’ll get back 80% of the pro-rated premium—unless it works out to under $25 or you’ve already made a claim (including windscreen, windows, or in-Vehicle Unit claims), in which case no refund applies.

Need to backdate the cancellation? Email [email protected] with supporting documents (e.g. sales agreement, scrap certificate, or LTA deregistration letter) and MSIG will respond within 3 working days.

💡 Important: Ensure replacement coverage is active before cancelling. Driving without insurance is illegal in Singapore.

What are common exclusions under MSIG car insurance?

Typical exclusions include wear and tear, mechanical failure, unauthorised use, private-hire / commercial use, and driving under the influence. See the Policy Exclusions section above, and review your own policy documents for the full list of exclusions and conditions.

Does MSIG car insurance cover electric vehicles?

Yes. Both MotorMax and MotorMax Plus cover electric vehicles, but MotorMax Plus offers enhanced EV-specific benefits: emergency EV towing when your battery runs out, extended medical expense cover for electric-shock injuries from battery leakage, and car lock / key replacement.

Can I insure a company-registered or private-hire car with MSIG's car insurance?

No. MSIG's MotorMax and MotorMax Plus plans are designed exclusively for private, non-commercial vehicles and do not cover any form of private hire usage, whether Private Hire (Self-Drive) or Private Hire (Chauffeur). MSIG offers separate commercial motor insurance for these use cases.
