Yes, FWD travel insurance covers accidental luggage damage when you’re travelling overseas. Coverage applies if your baggage or personal belongings are accidentally damaged or lost during your trip, as long as it is not due to wear and tear or any excluded circumstances.

Coverage limits and benefits

The amount you can claim for damaged luggage depends on your FWD travel insurance plan.

  • FWD Premium: Up to $3,000 per trip for theft or accidental damage to baggage and personal belongings.

  • FWD Business: Up to $5,000 per trip.

  • FWD First: Up to $7,500 per trip.

Important sub-limits

  • Laptop/tablet: Up to $1,000 total (for all tiers).

  • Mobile phone/jewellery: $300–$500 total, depending on tier.

  • Individual items: Typically capped at $500 per piece for Business/First, $300 for Premium.

⭐ For an up-to-date breakdown, refer to the FWD travel insurance policy wording and MoneySmart’s FWD travel insurance page.

Key terms and conditions

  • Sub-limits per item: As outlined above for laptops/tablets, mobile devices, jewellery, and single articles.

  • Original receipt required: Without the invoice, the claim is capped at $50 per article, pair or set, with a maximum of five items.

  • Depreciation applies: The value for devices may be calculated based on the age of the item.

  • Carrier claim first: If your luggage was damaged while in a carrier’s care (for example, airline or bus company), you must first make a claim with the carrier and provide the evidence of their rejection or partial reimbursement before FWD will process your claim.

  • Repair approval needed: You must obtain a quotation and get FWD’s approval before proceeding with any repair work.

  • Keep damaged items: You may be asked to retain damaged items for FWD’s assessment.

  • Loss of or damage to luggage left unattended in a public place.

How to claim FWD travel insurance

You can submit a claim digitally through the FWD SG platform or app. To support your claim for luggage damage, provide:

  • Property Irregularity Report (PIR) or baggage damage report from the airline or service provider

  • Colour photographs of the damaged items

  • Original invoices or proof of purchase for each item

  • Evidence of denial or partial compensation from the carrier (if applicable)

Submit everything via FWD’s digital claims portal. Ensure to keep your damaged items until your claim has been settled too, as they may be required for FWD’s review.
