Does Allianz travel insurance cover skiing for Singapore customers?
Part of the SeriesTravel Insurance 101

Yes—Allianz travel insurance plans sold in Singapore do provide coverage for recreational skiing and other snow/ice sports, but with important terms and exclusions.

Skiing and snowboarding are included under the “snow/ice sports” leisure activities on all current plans (Basic, Silver, and Platinum), so long as you stay on marked trails (on-piste), stay below 4,500 metres altitude, and follow recommended safety practices.

Keep in mind: coverage discussed here is specific to Singapore-issued Allianz travel insurance policies. Global Allianz products may differ.

Key coverage features

Under Allianz Travel Protect (Basic, Silver, and Platinum), you’re covered for winter activities like skiing and snowboarding (on-piste only) with these benefits:

Features

Emergency medical expenses overseas

For accidents/injuries abroad:

$200,000 (Basic)

$500,000 (Silver)

$1,000,000 (Platinum)

Emergency evacuation & repatriation

Unlimited

Includes COVID-19-related events

Up to $1,000,000 (Silver/Platinum plans)

Search and rescue

Up to $10,000 per trip (Silver and Platinum plans)

For mountain emergencies or being reported missing

Sporting equipment loss/damage

Coverage for theft or accidental loss

Max benefit of $1,000 (Basic), $3,000 (Silver), or $5,000 (Platinum); with per-item limits

Equipment rental

Claim up to $1,000 for rental costs if your gear is lost or stolen (Platinum plan)

Missed activity reimbursement

Covers prepaid lesson/lift pass fees if you can’t use them due to a covered event

Caps: up to $1,500 (Platinum)

You’ll also get baseline trip cancellation, baggage and travel delay, and personal accident benefits on all plans. (Coverage amounts, per-item sub-limits, and age-based caps apply—see the policy wording for specifics.)

Crucial exclusions

To stay eligible, you must follow these rules:

Rule 1: No off-piste or heli-skiing:

  • Only skiing/snowboarding within marked trails at recognised resorts is covered. Activities “off-piste” or accessed by helicopter are excluded from all tiers

Rule 2: Mandatory safety gear:

  • Always wear a helmet and other recommended safety equipment for claims to be accepted

Rule 3: No professional, sponsored, or race events:

  • Competitive, paid, or sponsored activities (including any form of race) are not covered

Rule 4: Operator requirements:

  • All high-risk activities must be arranged through a licensed and regulated provider

Pre-existing condition exclusions and age-based medical claim reductions also apply. Double-check the official Allianz Singapore policy wordings for updated details.

Plan eligibility

  • You must be “ordinarily resident” in Singapore to buy these travel plans

  • Policy must be purchased before departing from Singapore

  • The entry-level Allianz Basic plan covers medical and baggage needs for snow sports, but does NOT cover equipment rental or missed activity reimbursement (these are only on Silver and Platinum)

  • All sub-limits and exclusions apply—choose higher tiers if you want greater ski-specific coverage

Choosing the right plan and tier is crucial if you want comprehensive snow sports protection for your trip. If you’re planning a ski holiday, take a closer look at the medical, rescue, and equipment sub-limits—and how age or pre-existing conditions affect your cover—before you buy.

Always review the latest Allianz Singapore policy wording, as benefits and exclusions may change from year to year.
