The DBS Live Fresh Student Card has been a popular choice among Singaporean students for years due to its student-friendly features. Offering five years of annual fee waivers, no minimum spending requirements, and an attractive 5% cashback on contactless payments, public transport, and popular services like McDelivery and Netflix, it's a compelling option for young cardholders.
Let's dive deeper into the card's details, requirements, and benefits to help you decide if it's the right fit for your financial needs as a student.
At the moment, some of the similar credit cards in the market (at the time of writing on 7 August 2024) which target the same demographic as the DBS Live Fresh Student Card include the UOB EVOL Card and OCBC FRANK Card.
When comparing the cashback benefits, the DBS Live Fresh Student Card gives you up to 10% cashback for your spending i.e. 5% on selected spending categories + 5% additional cashback on green retailers, and transport services, which is on par with the maximum cashback of the UOB EVOL Card and OCBC FRANK Card.
However, only the DBS Live Fresh Student Card does not require a minimum spend to enjoy up to 10% cashback perks, unlike the other two credit cards which needs you to spend a minimum of $800 to qualify for the maximum cashback benefits.
In terms of cashback cap, the UOB EVOL Card and OCBC FRANK Card gives you more flexibility due to their higher cashback cap per month, which are $80 cashback cap and $100 cashback cap respectively. These are much more than DBS Live Fresh Student Card’s monthly cap limits of $15 on eligible sustainable spend, $15 on eligible merchant spend and $20 on all other spending categories.
As for interest rates, they do not differ much for all three cards, with DBS Live Fresh Student Card and UOB EVOL Card charging the same rate, while the OCBC FRANK Card’s rate has the lowest rate.
