Citi Cash Back Card

The Citi Cash Back Card pays 8% on petrol and private commute, 6% on dining and groceries, and 0.2% on everything else. Two numbers shape what you actually earn: you need S$800 of qualifying spend in a statement month to unlock those rates, and your total cash back is capped at S$80 a month across all categories. That means the card rewards a specific pattern — regular driving, ride-hailing, groceries and meals out — rather than general spending. Worth considering if those categories already make up most of your monthly bill.

Citi Cash Back Card: Up to 8% Cashback on Petrol, Dining and Groceries

The Citi Cash Back Card is a Citibank Singapore Mastercard that rewards spending in four everyday categories, worldwide. Once you spend at least $800 in a statement month, you earn:

  • Up to 8% cashback on petrol and private commute
  • Up to 6% cashback on dining and groceries
  • 0.2% cashback on other retail spend

Total cashback, including both bonus and base rate, is capped at $80 a month. The card also offers up to 23.64% fuel savings at Caltex, Esso and Shell, inclusive of the 8% cashback, and up to $1,000,000 travel accident cover on travel tickets charged to it.

If your spending is more varied, the Citi Cash Back+ Card pays a flat 1.6% with no minimum spend or cap.

How to Earn and Redeem Citi Cash Back Card Cashback

You earn bonus cashback in four categories (with minimum $800 monthly spend) and 0.2% on other retail spend. Whether a transaction qualifies depends on its merchant category code (MCC), the code banks use to classify a merchant, not just on what it sells.

Hence, assuming $800 eligible monthly spend:

Spend category

Cashback rate

Cashback earned

Eligible MCCs

Petrol

8%

$64

Service stations and automated fuel dispensers (MCC 5541, 5542), worldwide

Private commute

Dining

Caterers, restaurants and fast food (MCC 5811, 5812, 5814), worldwide

Groceries

6%

$48

Grocery stores and supermarkets (MCC 5411), worldwide

All other retail spend

0.2%

$1.60

Qualifying retail spend outside the four categories

Total cashback, including the 0.2% base rate, is capped at $80 per statement month across all categories. Once you hit the cap, further spend also won’t continue earning cashback that month.

Citi Cash Back exclusions: What doesn’t earn cashback

Citibank's rewards exclusion list includes:

  • Government services, such as taxes and fines.
  • Insurance premiums, education institutions, utilities, hospitals, charitable organisations, and betting or gambling.
  • Stored-value and quasi-cash transactions, such as wallet top-ups (e.g. YouTrip) and money transfers.
  • AXS payments, bus and MRT fares (SimplyGo, EZ-Link, TransitLink), parking, and rentals paid via real estate agents.
  • Bill payments through Citi PayAll.

Excluded transactions don't count towards the $800 minimum. Citi can update this list, so check the latest terms before you apply.

How to redeem Citi Cash Back cashback

You don't need to redeem cashback manually:

  • Cashback is credited automatically to your statement at your billing cycle date once you accumulate at least $50, in multiples of $10.
  • Any amount below $50, or above the last $10 multiple, rolls over to the next month.
  • Cashback earned on supplementary cards rolls over to the main card.
  • Cashback has no expiry date.

FAQs About the Citi Cash Back Card

How does the Citi Cash Back Card work?

It pays up to 8% cashback on selected categories once you spend at least $800 in a statement month. You earn 8% on petrol and private commute, 6% on dining and groceries, and 0.2% on other retail spend. Total cashback is capped at $80 per statement month. Below $800, all qualifying spend earns 0.2%.

What are the Citi Cash Back Card benefits?

The Citi Cash Back Card pays up to 8% bonus cashback on everyday categories (like dining, petrol, private commute, and groceries) with minimum $800 monthly spend, and 0.2% cashback on all other spend. Beyond that, it also offers:

  • Up to 23.64% fuel savings at Caltex, Esso and Shell, inclusive of the 8% cashback
  • Bonus categories that apply worldwide, not just in Singapore
  • Travel accident cover of up to $1,000,000 when you charge your travel tickets to the card
  • Supports Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay

How do I redeem Citi Cash Back cashback?

You don't need to redeem it. Citibank credits your cashback to your statement automatically:

  • When: at your billing cycle date, once you have at least $50
  • How much: in multiples of $10, with the rest rolling over
  • Tracking: see your cashback earned in the Citi Mobile App

Your cashback never expires.

What is the Citi Cash Back Card annual fee?

The annual fee is $196.20 a year, including 9% GST, and Citibank waives it in the first year. Supplementary cards cost $98.10 a year each, with the same first-year waiver.

What is the difference between Citi Cash Back and Citi Cash Back+?

Citi Cash Back+ pays a flat 1.6% with no minimum spend or cap, while Citi Cash Back pays up to 8% in four categories once you spend $800 a month. Citi Cash Back usually earns more if you reliably hit that minimum; Citi Cash Back+ suits varied or big-ticket spending.

What is the Citi Cash Back Card foreign transaction fee?

Citibank charges an admin fee of up to 3.25% on foreign currency transactions. Because the bonus categories apply worldwide, overseas petrol, private commute, dining and groceries still earn 6% or 8%, more than the fee. Other overseas spend earns only 0.2%, so the fee outweighs the cashback. If you want to avoid FX fees, check out our best credit cards for overseas spending with lower fees comparison page.

Is the Citi Cash Back Card worth it?

It's worth it if you spend at least $800 a month, mostly on petrol, private commute, dining and groceries. For example, $800 on petrol and private commute earns $64, and $1,000 reaches the $80 monthly cap. If your spend is lower or spread across other categories, a flat-rate card usually earns more.
