A CareShield supplement plan—sometimes called a CareShield Life or ElderShield supplement—is a private insurance policy designed to enhance the basic, government-provided long-term care protection in Singapore.

Rather than replacing your existing CareShield Life or ElderShield plan, these supplements top up or strengthen your coverage so you get more comprehensive support if you become severely disabled.

Key aspects of the supplement plans

  • Purpose: The supplement plan complements your CareShield Life or ElderShield coverage by offering higher monthly payouts and additional benefits in case of severe disability.

  • Eligibility: You must already be a policyholder under CareShield Life or ElderShield to qualify for a supplement plan.

  • Payouts: Plans typically offer a higher monthly payout and, in some cases, allow you to make a claim if you are unable to perform just one Activity of Daily Living (ADL), not just three.

  • Providers: Supplement plans are offered by private insurers in Singapore, but always in addition to the national scheme—not as a replacement.

  • Payment: Premiums can be paid using cash or MediSave, subject to annual per-person limits set by the government.

  • Flexibility: There is no restriction on the number of supplement plans you can buy, giving you flexibility to tailor your coverage to your needs.

Supplement plans can differ in features—some may offer premium discounts, while others let you select the level of monthly benefit you want to receive. This means you can find an option that best matches both your needs and your budget, with choices on payout amounts and plan add-ons.

If you’re interested in comparing specific supplement plans, or want to understand how payouts work if you become disabled, explore more guides or speak to a trusted insurance advisor to get details catered to your situation.
