FWD is known for offering one of the most affordable travel insurance plans in Singapore. With its COVID-19 add-on, Cashless medical claim, 180-day advance purchase, Emergency medical evacuation and many other benefits, FWD provides 3 types of travel insurance plans for you to choose from- FWD Premium, Business and First Plans.
What sets FWD apart from the other insurers is its competitive prices, as well as its mobile-friendly services like its FWD app, online portal and more. But that’s just barely scratching the surface when it comes to the benefits that FWD’s travel insurance plans provide.
In this review, we’ll weigh the pros and cons, look at FWD’s range of products and services and see how different it is from most travel insurance providers.
In the case that you get COVID-19 before, during or after your trip, you can get coverage for up to $100,000 in COVID-19 medical expenses incurred during/after your trip.
Planning your trip in advance can help you be well-prepared and FWD allows you to purchase your travel insurance up to 180 days before your trip, which is something that not many travel insurance providers provide.
The best part of insuring with FWD is that everything is done via its online portal or FWD SG app. This means that your travel insurance purchase and claims process are fully mobile-friendly.
So through its app, you can pay for your policy easily with PayNow, Grabpay and other payment methods, see a doctor online, enjoy cashless medical outpatient claims at FWD’s Singapore panel clinics, get worldwide emergency assistance and more. Its FWD SG App is available to download on Google Play or Apple App Store.
You’ll be able to claim transportation allowance to a medical facility for treatment, when diagnosed with an unexpected life-threatening illness or an injury while on an overseas trip.
No one wants their baggage to be delayed, stolen or damaged. But in such unfortunate situations, FWD can make things a little better by letting you claim up to $900 for baggage delay and up to $18,750 for theft of or damage to your personal belongings, including your baggage.
FWD’s COVID-19 Enhanced Travel Benefits add-on covers you for your cruise or cruise to nowhere trips too. Even if you’re already on a ferry or a cruise, and you need to get your travel insurance at the last minute, you’ll be covered when you buy FWD's insurance plan.
Just make sure that you’re in Singapore’s territorial waters and get it via FWD’s app or online portal before immigration. Do note that any claim made for something that happened before you bought your insurance will not be paid for, including trip delays.
Benefits include:
The FWD Premium plan is considered the most affordable of all FWD travel insurance plans and it’s suitable for budget-conscious travellers who are seeking relatively good coverage. It covers all the bases including overseas medical expenses, post-trip medical expenses, trip cancellation, personal baggage damages, and more.
Benefits include:
Great for business travellers who need slightly more coverage, this category is FWD’s mid-tier travel insurance plan. The coverage is similar to the Premium plan, except with more benefits and higher claim limits. Additional benefits include rental vehicle excess cover, overseas medical expenses insured for up to $500,000 and claims for death and third party death of up to $750,000.
Benefits include:
Travellers looking for maximum coverage can opt for FWD’s most comprehensive plan — FWD First. It covers you for everything which the FWD Business and Premium plans cover you for, but with higher limits. Most notably, this plan provides a lump sum payment of $1,000,000 for surviving adults and children if any party in a family dies or gets permanently disabled in an accident while travelling overseas. With such high benefits and personal accident coverage, this plan is ideal for families with children.

This is one of the most sought-after and important add-ons during this pandemic period. It will have you covered for any situation whereby you are diagnosed with Covid-19 no more than 30 days before your scheduled departure date, or if you have to change your itinerary because of a Covid-19 diagnosis while overseas, or after your trip.
Valid for FWD Single Trip plans (not for Annual Trip plans) with a duration of up to 90 days, this add-on includes a hospital cash benefit if you get hospitalised overseas or for up to 14 days in Singapore upon your return, coverage for medical expenses, trip disruptions or cancellations, and emergency evacuation or repatriation.
Benefits include:
Cover for any car rental excess you need to pay if an accident happens (applicable as an add-on only for the FWD Premium plan, as the other plans have already included this coverage).
If you’re a pet owner, you may want to consider this benefit as you’ll be able to claim $50 for every six hours of delay in your travel time.
Get up to $100 per day for your sports gear rental in the event that it requires replacement.
You do not have to worry about your home when you get this optional add-on to cover against burglary and fire in your home while you are enjoying your vacation or busy on a business trip overseas.
Firstly, you’ve got to be clear of what type of plan you purchased, when did the incident/illness occur (pre-trip, during-trip or post-trip), what belongings or items to claim for, and who are involved, before you make a claim.
Be it a claim for your COVID-19 medical expenses or damaged baggage, FWD requires claim reports to be made within 30 days of the incident via WhatsApp, the FWD SG app or their claims portal.
To do a WhatsApp claim for travel delay or baggage delay, you can send the message “I’ve a claim” to FWD Claims at +65 9128 8552 and WhatsApp photos of the required documents. As for hardcopy claims, you have to complete the online claims procedure and then mail your original documents to: FWD Singapore Pte Ltd (Claims Team), 6 Temasek Boulevard #18-01, Suntec Tower 4, Singapore 038986.
It is best to inform FWD within 30 days so as to avoid breaching the policy’s terms and conditions, which may affect your claim process. Do remember to use FWD’s standard forms which are available on their app or online claims portal. FWD will then follow up to acknowledge your claim within 2 working days.
At your own expense, you’ll need to provide all documentation that FWD requests in order to provide a full context of the incident and for FWD to assess your claim or claims. This include:
Once you’ve submitted all the documents required via the FWD SG app or their claims portal at www.fwd.com.sg, you will receive a claim acknowledgement, before FWD proceeds to review your claim. If you happen to get COVID-19 or other illness and injury before, during or after your trip, you may need to undergo a medical examination, or allow a postmortem examination (at FWD’s expense) for your claims.
An interview may also be arranged (case-by-case basis) by FWD and/or their third party service provider or representatives. Once the review is done and your claim is approved by FWD, FWD will make the necessary payments needed.
For single trip travel insurance policies, you can cancel any time before the trip start date and FWD will refund the amount you paid in full. However, no refund will be given once the trip starts. As for annual travel insurance, you can cancel your policy at any time during the period of insurance, but the amount refunded will not be full and only a percentage of the amount you paid, depending on the timing of cancellation. More information is available on FWD’s travel insurance cancellation page.
