3 Reasons To Get Amex Travel Insurance

As you would know, American Express isn’t really a travel insurance company. The Amex travel insurance is actually underwritten by Chubb travel insurance, sold under the American Express My VoyageGuard brand.

High Medical Coverage Benefit

Amex travel insurance plans have one of the highest medical benefits in the market. For the lowest tier My VoyageGuard Essential plan, it is already $500,000. For Standard and Superior, it is $1,000,000 and $2,000,000 respectively.

Comprehensive Coverage for Extreme Sports

Unlike many other insurance companies, Amex doesn’t list any sport in their policy exclusions. You will be covered even for extreme and aerial sports like bungee jumping, skydiving, paragliding and more.

Attractive Travel Insurance Promotions

The Amex travel insurance plans are rather expensive, but they are also often on discount (up to 45% off single trips!). You can keep up to date with the ongoing promo codes on the American Express travel insurance page.

Amex Travel Insurance Claims

Although sold by American Express, all after sales support - including claims - are managed by Chubb Insurance. The claims process is digital: You may submit your claims through Chubb’s online portal or download the forms and email them (with your documents) at [email protected]. Your submission will be acknowledged within 3 days.

Amex Travel Insurance Contact Information

For support on your Amex travel insurance, you can call the Chubb Insurance customer service hotline +65 6299 0922 (Mon to Fri, 9am to 5pm). You may also send an email to [email protected], or send a fax to +65 6298 1055.

Frequently Asked Questions

My American Express miles card already comes with free travel insurance. Do I still need to purchase travel insurance?

When you charge your full airfare to your Amex KrisFlyer Ascend credit card, you are entitled to free travel insurance. However, free coverage is limited to travel accidents and delays, which is insufficient for most travelers. If you want protection for things like medical expenses, you will need to purchase a more comprehensive travel insurance plan separately.

Does Amex travel insurance cover pre-existing conditions?

No, pre-existing medical conditions are not covered (i.e. medical conditions you have suffered or should have been aware of within 12 months before the policy effective date)

I fell ill overseas, but only sought treatment in Singapore. Can I make a claim?

No. If you did not see a doctor overseas and wait until you’re back to seek treatment, your case will not be eligible for claims under post journey medical expenses. Your first treatment must be overseas.

Can my friend and I buy the “couple” travel insurance plans?

You can purchase the couple plan for the single-trip plan, but not the annual multi-trip plan.

What constitutes a “family” for the family travel insurance plans?

Family plans are for you, your spouse and your child (or children). If you’re traveling with your parents, you will have to purchase separate plans, or you can purchase the couple plan for your parents.
