Having won theReader's Digest Trusted Brands Gold Award for Travel Insurance for four consecutive years and garnered the Best Travel Insurance Awarded by Tripzilla in 2022, AIG Asia Pacific Insurance has been providing value-for-money travel insurance plans for many travellers.
In 2023, AIG was picked as 'Singapore's Best Customer Service 2022/23' in a survey published by The Straits Times.
At 4 different price points, AIG offers a slew of travel insurance benefits in their Travel Guard Direct plans for every budget. Each plan, be it the AIG Travel Guard Basic, Travel Guard Standard, Travel Guard Enhanced or Travel Guard Supreme, is highly customisable with optional riders for you to add on. What’s more, its Supreme plan offers over two million dollars in overseas medical expenses coverage, which is the highest in the market.
To find out if their plans are suitable for you and/or your fellow travel companion, we’ll weigh the pros and cons, look at the Travel Guard Direct range of products and services and see what sets them apart from other travel insurers.
If you’re looking for extensive medical coverage, AIG’s Supreme plan covers you for up to $2,500,000 in overseas medical expenses, which is the highest in the market. Highlights include coverage for post-trip medical expenses incurred, mobility aid reimbursement, hospital income for abroad and in Singapore, hospital visitation, compassionate visit, child protector, emergency evacuation and unlimited repatriation.
Get up to $300,000 for overseas COVID-19 related medical and evacuation costs incurred, up to $7,500 for trip cancellation/curtailment, up to $1,500 for trip postponement, and $100 per day per person for up to 14 consecutive days as Out-of-country COVID-19 diagnosis quarantine allowance and more benefits, if you are diagnosed with COVID-19 whilst overseas during your trip. You’ll even get to enjoy preferred rates for PCR tests before you fly off from Singapore.
Unlike many insurance companies that work with third-party rescue providers, AIG has an in-house emergency assistance network operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in 8 locations (Japan, China, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Wisconsin, Texas and Mexico) across the globe.
It is AIG’s wholly owned Travel Assistance Company which comprises a worldwide team of medical professionals and insurance specialists providing advice and emergency assistance to you 24/7, wherever you are. All you need to do is call +65 6733 2552 (Overseas Emergency Assistance Hotline) from anywhere in the world when you need help.
While some insurers have a coverage limit for emergency medical evacuation and repatriation, AIG provides unlimited coverage of emergency evacuation and repatriation for almost all of their plans (except for the Basic plan which has a $500,000 claim limit for emergency medical evacuation, but unlimited coverage for repatriation).
When it comes to getting your claims done, you can do it with ease – file online or call AIG’s 24-hour claims hotline at +65 6224 3698. Not many insurers offer this service round-the-clock and it saves you the time of waiting for any important claims that need to be settled urgently.
At the touch of a button, you can access AIG’s products and services instantly and to get the cover that you need. And if you are already covered by AIG, you can renew your personal insurance policies via their app. What’s more it provides access to emergency assistance hotlines that are manned round the clock should an emergency arise.

Whether you’re claiming for COVID-19 medical expenses or damaged baggage, AIG requires claim reports to be made within 30 days after the occurrence of any event which may give rise to a claim, via the AIG SG app or their claims portal.
It is best to inform AIG within 30 days so as to avoid breaching the policy’s terms and conditions, which may affect your claim process. You can expect AIG’s claims team to process your claim (if it is a straightforward travel insurance claim) within 10 business days if it is submitted with complete documentation. It may take longer to process a claim if AIG requires additional information or documents from you.
For all claim types, you’re required to to submit the following supporting documents, together with copies of your passport and complete travel itinerary.
If you’re doing it via the AIG SG app or AIG online claims portal, upload as attached files in your submission and fill up the necessary details in the online forms given.

AIG will keep you updated on your claim by email or post. Alternatively, you can call their 24-hour travel claims hotline at 6224 3698 to check on your claim status.
Once you’ve submitted all the documents required, you will receive a claim acknowledgement, before AIG proceeds to review your claim. After the review is done and your claim is approved by AIG, AIG will make the necessary payments needed.
For single trip travel insurance policies, you may cancel the policy anytime but the premium will not be refunded once the policy is issued. As for annual multi-trip travel insurance, you can cancel your policy if the cancellation is done less than 6 months from your policy’s effective date, and a short rate will apply except if there has been a claim against the policy during that time period.
The short rate will not be pro-rated and it is actually an insurance premium which AIG charges if your coverage is less than one year. There will be no refund if you cancel the policy after nine months from the policy effective date.
Call +65 6419 3000 for general enquiries (9am to 5pm on weekdays), or +65 6733 2552 for emergency assistance (24/7). Alternatively, you may wish to submit your questions via AIG’s online enquiry and feedback form.
